From Concept To Harvest: The Journey of Implementing Commercial Irrigation System

Commercial irrigation systems have gained popularity for all the right reasons. It is not just a concept anymore but there was a time when it existed just on papers. From farming and gardening to beautification of commercial properties installing an irrigation system has become a common thing. Needless to say that it is quite a journey. In today’s article let’s discuss how it all happened and from where did it all start.

What Is Irrigation Technology?

Let us start with irrigation technology itself. What is an irrigation system ? What does it do and why is it important? Well, an irrigation system is nothing but an automated system which is used to deliver water for household requirements and for outdoor use, like watering plants, gardens, lawns and farm lands. In today’s world automation is becoming more and more common in commercial spaces. Commercial application of irrigation systems is also a result of the very same thing. In short, the irrigation system is an intricate network of pipes, underground tunnels, channels of pumps and spray that is combined together to supply ample amount of water in a vast area.

Different Types Of Irrigation Systems

Commercial or not, water irrigation systems can be majorly divided into four different types depending upon the mode of water supply.

  1. Surface Irrigation:

By far the simplest type of irrigation system. In surface irrigation water is distributed over the soil surface or the ground which eventually spreads all over the targeted area due to gravity. This kind of irrigation system works fine for farm lands. This requires less expenditure also as the water flows all by itself. Hence it is seen mostly in remote areas, villages and in huge farming areas with smoother soil quality as the soil quality impacts the spreading of water on the ground.

  2. Sprinkler:

Water sprinkler irrigation method uses a sprinkler system which sprays water in the air. The sprinklers are installed in a net like geometry. When the sprinkler operating system is turned on all the sprinkler heads starts spraying water. Each sprinkler head covers a certain area which is calculated to set the distance between two sprinkler heads. This one can get a bit more expensive than the surface irrigation as a lot of sprinkler heads are required to cover a farming land. This system is mostly used in gardens as sprinkling of water helps keep grasses and smaller plants soak better hence keep them greener.

  3. Drip or Trickle:

This one is a micro irrigation system. In this system the water is basically rolled down near the surface very slowly. The flow rate of water is kept very low. A network of small taps is created using pipes. Since the water is released close to the ground hence this irrigation method can be used in almost all types of soils.

  4. Subsurface:

In subsurface method the water irrigation system is buried below the soil surface to water the roots of the greens. Here the depth of the irrigation network depends on the depth of the water table. If the water table is far enough under the ground a sprinkler network system can be easily installed underneath the soil surface to water the roots of the plants.

Other than these four types there are several subtypes of water irrigation system available nowadays but they all use these methods in some way or the other.

Water-Efficient Irrigation

With the constantly rising temperature, saving water is becoming more and more important everyday. In some places water scarcity is also going up. In Australia the diverse climate plays a crucial role in keeping the greenery alive. This is why water-efficient irrigation or smart irrigation is being called the best management system. It saves water, delivers sufficient water to the greens and cuts down your energy consumption too.

As more and more people, companies are seeking to install water-efficient irrigation systems, smart and water-efficient irrigation system installation is gaining popularity.

The Journey Of Implementing Commercial Irrigation System

Water irrigation systems have been used by home owners and farmers since years now, but the journey was not linear like it seems. The soaring popularity of commercial water irrigation system did not happen overnight. Back in the day traditional methods of water distribution were highly common. It mainly involved manually watering the greens by sourcing water from a large reserve. Eventually pumps took the place of manually carrying the water. Now that human efforts are getting expensive by the day and technology is replacing manual tasks, commercial irrigation systems are gaining massive popularity. In the diverse climate and geographical location of Australia this automation is actually saving a lot of water wastage. Research says this commercial implementation will rise in the upcoming days.

Irrigation System Maintenance

Like any other technology water irrigation systems also require maintenance from time to time. There are several reasons which can lead to damaging of the water irrigation system, such as deposition of minerals from water, groundwater contamination etc. You can read more about water irrigation system maintenance here.

Conclusion

Human efforts are getting replaced by technology with each passing year. With the rise of automation commercial implementation of technology is also on the rise as it saves time, money, effort. What is waiting for us in the future that’s a matter of debate today. Is it better? Is it worse? Only time will tell. For now all we know is that commercial implementation of water irrigation systems will increase and we will get better products at comparatively affordable rates as it reduces human efforts.
